Project overview

A waterfront property
designed for everyday escape.

The Thompson Residence brings recreation, relaxation and coastal character into one cohesive outdoor environment. The completed landscape connects the elevated home to a pool terrace, custom putting green, fire-side gathering area and canal frontage without allowing any single feature to overpower the property.

Layered planting, warm low-voltage lighting and naturalistic stonework soften the architectural transitions and create a landscape that remains composed from daylight through evening.

Design strategy

Distinct experiences.
One continuous landscape.

01

Organize the property

The pool, putting green, lounge terraces and waterfront gathering area are arranged as connected destinations with comfortable circulation between them.

02

Preserve the water view

Planting frames the canal and provides texture and privacy while maintaining the long view that gives the property its coastal identity.

03

Design beyond daylight

Layered lighting reveals specimen trees, planting beds, paths and recreational areas, extending the use and visual depth of the landscape after sunset.

The completed environment

Resort character,
made personal.

The result is an outdoor setting that feels expansive yet intimate. Active recreation occupies the center of the property, quieter gathering spaces sit along the edges, and planting unifies the entire composition.

At twilight, the lighting strategy becomes part of the architecture of the garden—guiding movement, emphasizing depth and allowing the landscape to remain the defining experience of the residence.
